The westernmost shrine in the Garhwal Himalayas is located near Yamunotri, the source of the Yamuna River, and is positioned atop Bandar Poonch Parvat. The Yamuna temple and the holy hot springs at Jankichatti are Yamunotri's top attractions (7 km. Away). The shrine was built near the base of the hill since the true source, a frozen lake of ice and glacier (also known as Yamunotri Glacier or Champasar Glacier) on the Kalind mountain at a height of 4421 m above sea level, is not frequently visited because it is inaccessible. Due to the treacherous approach, worshippers do pooja at the temple itself. The god is crafted from black marble. Hindus have elevated the Yamuna, who is similar to the Ganga, to the position of goddess mother and held her accountable for fostering and advancing Indian civilization.
In the state of Uttarakhand, at a height of 3,048 metres above sea level, is Gangotri. Gangotri, one of the Char Dham of Uttarakhand, is situated on the banks of the revered Bhagirathi River. In Gangotri, there is a naturally occurring rock Shivling that is submerged under water and is plainly seen when winter is approaching since the water level drops at that time. Legends and beliefs claim that this is where Lord Shiva sat when he got Ganga in his matted hair. The highest and most significant temple to Goddess Ganga is in Gangotri. Amar Singh Thapa, a Gorkha general, constructed the current Gangotri temple in the beginning of the 18th century. 18 kilometres separate Gangotri from the Gaumukh glacier, the source of the Bhagirathi River; this distance must be covered on foot.
The most revered shrine in Yamunotri is the Temple of Yamuna Ji. There are a few hot springs close to this temple where boiling water streams out of mountain crevices. The primary kund is Surya Kund. When a small amount of rice or potatoes are dipped in it and removed after a short period of time, they are completely cooked. We take these as prasad home. Before puja is done to Yamunaji, Divya Shila, a shila located close to Surya Kund, is worshipped.
Gangotri: Gangotri is home to the Bhagirathi Temple. Shri Ganga Ji, Yamuna Ji, Lakshmi Ji, Saraswati Ji, Parwati Ji, and Annapurna Ji statues can be found at this temple. There is also a substantial deodar forest here. The Ganga temple is located on the right bank of the Bhagirathi (Ganga), and the river's trip can be observed in a variety of moods: deep and motionless in the lower plains, but tossing, gurgling, foaming, and singing an ecstatic tune in Gangotri.
